8 皰疹病毒丙亞科基本特性
皰疹病毒丙亞科包括淋巴濾泡病毒屬、蛛猴皰疹病毒屬和魚皰疹樣病毒屬，主要成員有：人皰疹病毒4型（HHV-4，EBV）、蛛猴皰疹病毒（Herpesvirus ateles）、松鼠猴皰疹病毒（Herpesvirus saimiri ，HVS）、和兔皰疹病毒。這些病毒在淋巴細胞或T淋巴細胞中複製。
病毒基因組核苷酸序列或推測的氨基酸序列形成γ?皰疹病毒亞科各屬成員的特定譜系。一些特定基因在皰疹病毒科中可能是獨特的，包括HHV-5的BNRF-1, BTRF-1 and BRLF-1，對應於猿猴皰疹病毒2型的ORF3、23和50。本亞科許多成員可感染淋巴細胞，可建立攜帶培養，攜帶培養的少數細胞是生產性感染。活體中的潛伏感染發生在淋巴細胞或淋巴組織中。急性感染經常與淋巴增殖失常相關，本亞科的許多成員與淋巴或非淋巴器官的惡性病變相關。
